Family

The Past Week

For all of our family on the West Coast, we are in our 3rd week of school. I know, I know. It’s crazy and somewhat normal feeling – now that I’ve surrendered to the reality of getting up at oh dark hundred to get my daughter to the bus stop.

I equate the start of school with the beginning of fall, which doesn’t translate well when school starts in August. So far I’ve resisted the urge to buy pumpkins and mums. But once September rolls around, all bets are off!

Although, I did buy this super cute mini mason jar candle from Bath and Body Works. The Bourbon Butterscotch scent smells so darn amazing, spectacularly, stupendously good. Perfect for fall. (And, no. Sadly, Bath and Body Works doesn’t know me, but I wish they did!)

Our town has a community party once a month with bands, food trucks and fun for the kids. We finally had the opportunity to go and took advantage of riding the trolley car to the event. That, in an of itself, made it worth it for the kids! All 3 of them. 🙂

We also hiked the Kennesaw Mountain Trail. I highly recommend it for the history lesson alone. It’s a 2.4-mile out and back hike. It’s pretty much all uphill for 1.2 miles and all downhill for the remaining 1.2 miles!

I couldn’t get over the fact that when we reached the very top of the trail, we found cannons that had been there since the Civil War in 1864. It boggles my mind the effort it must have taken to haul those things up over that rough terrain.

There was a slight mishap on the way home from the hike. See that airplane on the side of my son’s head? Yeah. That was caught in his hair. I still can’t look at that picture without bursting out laughing. He wasn’t as amused as the rest of us!

Don’t worry! He made a full recovery! Today was his orientation day at Pre-K! He got to meet his teachers and his classmates. There are 9 boys and 3 girls in his class. That’s right. 3/4 of the class is comprised of 4-year-old boys! The two lovely teachers for his class are going to have their hands full! Bless their hearts!

He was bound and determined to carry in that heavy bag of supplies himself. 🙂 School starts on Tuesday and he is so excited. He’ll be going 4 mornings per week. I’m excited too!

Well, I’m ready for a 3-day weekend! How about you? I’m not sure what our plans include, but I am happily looking forward to going with the flow and spending time together as a family.
