Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween all you Ghouls and Goblins!

Tonight we will be celebrating Halloween with all of our neighbors. Our street does a community dinner followed by the main event – trick or treating, of course! Since this is our first Halloween in Georgia we are excited to celebrate here.

We’ve had some fun this week getting in the Halloween spirit.

We carved some pumpkins…

Trust me, this was just a glamour picture. Once he figured out that you have to actually touch the slimy pumpkin to get the guts out, he let me do the dirty work. So nice of him.
We ended up with a ghost and a scary jack o’ lantern. And by the way, they told me these were the small pumpkins. 🙂 Ha!
This girl, when she picks a theme, she really runs with it. For the first time in her 7 years, she is not going to be an animal for Halloween. *sob* She’s going to be a ghost. Easiest handmade costume EVER, by the way. Also, my first handmade costume. Anyway, it was no surprise that she picked a ghost for her pumpkin design.

As a side note, this is the first time EVER that we’ve carved pumpkins outside in 80 degree weather. It was glorious. It looks like the temperatures might start dropping this weekend finally. I’m sure you’re feeling so, so sorry for me right now. 😉

We’ve also had fun playing with our food. There have been a lot of Halloween-themed food items around our house this week. How about ghost biscuits? It’s easy! After you roll your biscuit dough out, use a ghost-shaped cookie cutter to make your shapes.

My son doesn’t eat lunch at school, but my daughter does. I’ve been coming up with inventive names for her lunch items this week – round crackers become eyeballs, strawberries become beating hearts – that sort of thing. I’ve had fun with the sharpie pen by drawing pictures of broomsticks and mummies on her Gogurt. Normally it pains me to waste bread and so I did buy bread for the express purpose of cutting out Halloween shapes for her sandwiches.

My Halloween Countdown Lunch Notes can be found here. Excuse the ridiculous note…I’m not quite coherent at 5:15 in the morning when I’m making her lunch. Oy! That’s an early one!

Tomorrow’s lunch will feature mummy hotdogs and tomato soup. You know I’m going to have fun with those two items!

Now, my kids decided we didn’t do enough Halloween decorating, so they took the liberty of coloring a “Haunted Trampoline” sign. I love their imaginations!

I hope you and your family have a very safe and happy Halloween!
