Christmas Entry

When I was pregnant with my daughter, our firstborn, I bought a baby name book and my husband and I would pour over it at night highlighting names we liked.

The enormity of naming our child weighed heavily upon us.

It’s a good thing I had already selected her first name…when I was 5 years old. That’s right, my  blonde-haired Cabbage Patch Kid and my blonde-haired daughter share the same first name.

What can I say? I was a 5-year-old with excellent taste.

At least I didn’t name her after one of the My Little Ponies.

However, we still needed a middle name for our daughter. My 5-year-old self just wasn’t any help in that department and I was feeling the pressure!

Her first name, besides the fact that I have loved it my entire life, had meaning. I wanted her middle name to hold special meaning as well.

During those 40 long, long weeks, my mind was constantly filled with wonderment for this life growing inside of me. Most of the time I wondered how something so small could make me throw up so much?

Kidding. Sort of.

In all seriousness, waiting for her to be born…I couldn’t put that anticipation into words. Every attempt I made seemed inadequate. The closest thing I could equate that feeling to was being a little kid at Christmas. The entire build-up to Christmas day was magical. The anticipation, the suspense, the powerful meaning of it all…the sheer joy of the season – that’s what it was like waiting for our daughter to be born.

So we gave her the middle name of Noelle, which means Christmas, so that she’d always know how much we wanted her and how eagerly we awaited her arrival.

This post has nothing to do with how I decorated my entry for Christmas. The pictures speak for themselves. I just wanted to say –  wherever you are and whatever you are doing this week of Christmas, I hope you find the joy, happiness and magic of the season in your heart and in your home.
