8 Easy DIY Christmas Decor Ideas

I’m normally a one holiday at a time type of gal, but this is not a normal year!

I’ve been thinking about how I want to decorate this year’s Christmas tree since before Halloween! It’s true. I haven’t fully decided on a plan, but it’s fun to think about.

If you’re like me and are taking a little extra comfort in the holidays this year, here are eight easy DIY Christmas decor ideas you could use to make your home extra festive this year.

Easy DIY Christmas Decor Idea: Leather Christmas Tree

Leather and Christmas? Yes. Don’t write this idea off just because leather isn’t your thing. You could use any fabric for this project. You could even use colored paper, newspaper, sheet music, wallpaper…you get the idea.

If you can wrap it around or glue it to a cardboard cone, you can use it to make a festive Christmas tree.

Easy DIY Christmas Decor Idea: Chalkboard Globe Advent Calendar

The hardest part about this DIY Christmas decor idea is remembering to change the number every day! For real.

If you can’t find a chalkboard globe at the store, you can always paint a regular globe with chalkboard paint.

Easy DIY Christmas Decor Idea: Faux Snow Globe

If you want the look of a snow globe without the hassle of making it watertight, then here is the faux version.

Glue a tiny craft tree to the lid of a mason jar, fill with faux snow, flip upside down and voila!

Easy DIY Christmas Decor Idea: Wood Block Ornament

Wood blocks are like a blank slate when it comes to DIY ornaments.

This ornament is just a thin strip of stained wood with a Christmas word written on it with a paint pen.

Easy DIY Christmas Decor Idea: Easy Ribbon Hack

Want ribbon on your tree, but don’t want to buy it?

No problem.

The “ribbon” on this Christmas tree was made by cutting up one of Handy Husband’s shirts. Don’t worry. It wasn’t his favorite shirt.

Easy DIY Christmas Decor Idea: Wood Name Tag for Christmas Stockings

Make wood name tags for your Christmas stockings or use the wood tag as a gift topper.

I used precut wood rectangles from the craft store, so this really is an easy idea to make happen.

Easy DIY Christmas Decor Idea: Kids’ Tree Art

Have your kids (or you – I won’t tell you which one of these is mine) paint some Christmas trees on computer paper. Then frame their creations.

It doesn’t matter how abstract or imperfect these trees look…it’s art!

Easy DIY Christmas Decor Idea: Wood Ball Ornaments

Did you know you can buy wood balls online? They make a great base for a Christmas ornament.

You just need to add a hook and decorate them however you want! I went for a color-blocked treatment on these ornaments, but I’m thinking about sanding them down and doing something different for this year.

I’m not sure what it is about Christmas that makes me want to get crafty.

Do you think there’s a subliminal message in all of those Christmas songs that says, “Ho-ho-hold the glitter! It’s time to get crafty!”?

Perhaps all those construction paper, yarn, and popsicle stick ornaments I made in elementary school planted the seed. I’m sure that year I came home with a 3-ft. long cascading tree “ornament” made my mom super thrilled.

Whatever the cause, a little DIY Christmas decor makes me happy.

I’d love to see some of the things you make for the holidays! You can always message me or tag me in your photos on social media. Until then, here are some other posts you might enjoy!
