Why, hello! Welcome to this week’s Happy List!
This weekend marks the unofficial start to summer in the U.S. Who is ready?
*raises both hands*
But could we keep the temperature under 85F this summer? Is that too much to ask? Probably.
This week on the blog I shared the outdoor furniture setup on our deck because I’m ready for summer! I also shared the American flag I painted on a wood door that hangs on the side of our barn.
Now, here is the Happy List!
FUCHSIA
Never would I think to paint an exposed ceiling fuchsia. Isn’t it amazing?
This wasn’t even the most impressive picture of this home, which is a restored warehouse owned by Spanish painter Lita Cabellut. Be sure and check out the picture of the kitchen sink, which comes from a royal garden and was used to wash roses.

CORNHOLE
What a clever reuse for skis! A company on Etsy called Colorado Ski Chairs makes and sells cornhole board sets made out of old skis.
I bet you could do something similar with vintage sleds too.

WISTERIA
This Wisteria walk is magical.

There is a wisteria plant growing just over our property line in a green space. It has grown up a tree and is probably 90-feet high now.
MEMORIAL DAY CONCERT
PBS will air the National Memorial Day Concert on May 30th! You can live stream it too.
There will be a special tribute to Vietnam nurses. Performers include General Colin Powell, Gary Sinise, Vince Gill, Sara Bareilles, Steve Buscemi, Joe Mantegna, Alan Jackson, and more!

FATHER’S DAY
Handy Husband doesn’t tell dad jokes. At least, not yet! But if he did, I’d get him this shirt from Etsy for Father’s Day.

WORK FROM NEAR HOME
Cal Newport, a professor of computer science at Georgetown University, penned an essay in The New Yorker this week titled “What if Remote Work Didn’t Mean Working From Home?”
In it he writes, “Here’s my proposal: organizations that allow remote work should not only encourage these employees to find professional spaces near (but distinct from) their homes—they should also directly subsidize these cognitive escapes.”
Handy Husband has worked remotely through the pandemic and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. His company might switch to a hybrid model instead of all remote though.
He has a space near, but distinct from our house to work in and it has made a world of difference to his productivity and the rest of the family’s productivity.
GOODTIME HOTEL
Musician Pharrell Williams is partner in a new art deco hotel in Miami Beach. Of all the gorgeous photos of The Goodtime Hotel, do you know what caught my eye?

I have spent a lot of time looking at console sinks as we’ve worked on our bathroom. Never have I seen wicker used on the sides of a console sink to conceal what I presume is a trash can. I don’t know how you’d do this yourself, but I’m sure someone will come up with a hack.
