Happy List: 338

daffodils along a stone wall in front of a farmhouse in new jersey on the happy list

Why, hello there! Welcome to this week’s Happy List!

This week on the blog I shared how the gaps in our wood floors are doing after I filled them with oakum two and a half years ago. Long story short, the experiment continues.

And in other old house news, I also wrote about the stone steps leading into our basement. We’re not sure when those steps were added but we love that they aren’t made of wood.

As always, thank you for being here. Truly. It means the world to us and helps keep the lights on. If you want to connect with us, and I hope you do, you can always comment on this blog post or send an email here. You can also reach out on Instagram or Facebook.

Enjoy this week’s Happy List!

FIRE PIT

Doesn’t this fire pit area look so inviting? I’d sit on the double Adirondack chair next to Handy Husband because we’re mushy like that.

As a side note, we kept these double rocking chairs on our covered front porch all winter long and I don’t see any signs of weather damage. While the porch is covered, it does get wet on those windy, rainy days and I was not wiping them dry this winter. I’ll have to show you an update on these soon. They are from Walmart.

BRITISH WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS

This photo by Ryan Stalker of a soccer ball covered in barnacles won this year’s British Wildlife Photography Awards.

I found this photo to be an interesting mix of amazing and tragic. It highlights a way that invasive species can hitch a ride on trash and end up where they don’t belong.

Check out the other winning entries here.

TWICE AS AMAZING

What caught my eye about this photo besides everything was the table situation.

It looks so effortless to have pushed two matching tables together to create a table large enough to fill an over-sized space. It’s also a flexible solution that allows you to easily change the furniture layout.

If you like this photo, the photos of the wallpapered room and the outdoor gardens will likely send you into a frenzy. Check them out here.

FAUX SPRING WREATH

This spring wreath is so pretty! It also has 4.5 stars out of 2,200 reviews, which is pretty darn good for faux florals.

If I had a house with double front doors, I’d get one for each door. *swoons*

BRIGHT IDEA

Notice the lamp placement in this boho teen bedroom makeover by The Painted Hive?

If you have a small space that doesn’t have room for a nightstand, attaching a light to the side of a dresser is a great idea! It also brings balance to the disparity in height between the dresser and bed.

20,000 JOBS

Get ready! The job board for the American Climate Corps is set to open in April. The organization plans to hire 20,000 young people in its first year!

The American Climate Corps, promised early in the Biden administration, is a program is modeled after President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Civilian Conservation Corp. According to Grist, “The positions with the new corps could range across a number of fields including energy-efficiency installations, disaster response preparedness, recycling, and wildfire mitigation.”

As a parent with kids who will be going into the workforce in the coming years, this is good news!

Read more about it here.

CHIVE BLOSSOM VINEGAR

I am intrigued! Michael from Inspired By Charm has shared how to make Chive Blossom Vinegar on his site. Talk about a neat way to elevate your salad dressing game.

I have one of these plants but it has not blossomed yet. Get the details here.

POETRY MOMENT

Instructions On Not Giving Up by Ada Limón

More than the fuchsia funnels breaking out
of the crabapple tree, more than the neighbor’s
almost obscene display of cherry limbs shoving
their cotton candy-colored blossoms to the slate
sky of spring rains, it’s the greening of the trees
that really gets to me. When all the shock of white
and taffy, the world’s baubles and trinkets, leave
the pavement strewn with the confetti of aftermath,
the leaves come. Patient, plodding, a green skin
growing over whatever winter did to us, a return
to the strange idea of continuous living despite
the mess of us, the hurt, the empty. Fine then,
I’ll take it, the tree seems to say, a new slick leaf
unfurling like a fist, I’ll take it all.

Thank you for reading today’s Happy List.

Be good to yourself and others this weekend.

I’ll see you back here on Monday.
