Happy List: #429

wood easter eggs stained in colorful ways using watercolor paint

Hello! Welcome to this week’s Happy List. It is so fun to have you here.

This week on the blog, I discussed a topic near and dear to my stomach. The bread recipes I swear by. Fun fact: I’m usually baking this bread while writing the Happy List. Multi-tasking, but make it delicious. That’s my life motto.

I also shared the progress I’ve made in extending the foundation wall in our basement. You’ll probably have to see it to believe it, but I will eventually finish this project.

Thank you for spending part of your day here. The Happy List is purposefully light and filled with things that caught my eye this week or inspired me in some way. I hope they do the same for you. If you’d like to reach out, and I hope you do, please comment on this blog post or email me here. You can also direct message me on Instagram or Facebook. (P.S. I am much better at answering emails and Instagram DMs than I am at anything on Facebook.)

Here’s the Happy List!

GREEN WITH INSPIRATION

I’d love to walk through a home with green-stained wood to see how it feels in person. How about you?

The other thing that caught my eye, besides the windows and the piano, was the shelves for sheet music. I really want to build something in our music room to hold music. I know many musicians have their music on tablets these days, but enclosed storage is never a waste.

MYTHBUSTING MODERN COLD WEATHER GEAR

The Turner Twins go on epic outdoor adventures. One twin wears the latest and greatest modern gear. The other twin wears gear from the early 1900s. Then they see which gear performs better, and by how much, using actual scientific measuring devices.

I was SHOCKED by the results.

HYDRATING

Speaking of harsh winter conditions, my face has been SO dry this winter. I usually wait longer than two weeks to share a product I like, but this one has given me so much relief already that I’m sharing it now.

You apply this Experiment Super Saturated Barrier Serum to clean, damp skin. Then follow with your regular facial moisturizing routine. I’m crossing my fingers that it continues to be protective during pool season. Chlorine is harsh!

P.S. Many of the things we use and love in our home, including the blue packing bags for college kids, are on sale during Amazon’s Spring Sale. You can shop our Amazon Storefront here.

WINED AND DINED

I have zero interest in converting our basement to a wine cellar, but this image did catch my eye. It helped me visualize how our basement could look if we ever end up finishing fixing it up. We could have a tv and gaming room down there. There could be a bedroom. It doesn’t have to be gross! The possibilities!

Also, you know I love a drink table! This room has three of them and cute table lamps.

RHINO GOOD NEWS

For the first time since 1983, southern white rhinos have been reintroduced to Uganda’s Kidepo Valley National Park after they had been eradicated by poaching. This is a huge step in preserving a species under extreme threat. I love good animal news.

Read more about it at AP News.

WELL HEAD COVERS

Did you know metal garden columns that cover a well head and have solar lights are a thing? Of course, they don’t have to cover a well head or other utilities. They can just be amazing garden art that lights up at night!

They are on Etsy. There are a bunch of sellers with different designs, and you can pick your size.

I’ve been trying to narrow it down, but I think this is the one I want because of how it will look at night.

EASTER DIRT CAKE

I don’t usually make an Easter dessert because there’s so much Easter candy in the house.

However, I’m in a YOLO mood, so maybe this year I’ll make this Easter Dirt Cake. It looks fun and easy. There’s no baking involved.

POETRY MOMENT

Funny by Anna Kamieńska
Translated by Stanislaw Baranczak and Claire Cavanagh

What’s it like to be a human
the bird asked

I myself don’t know
it’s being held prisoner by your skin
while reaching infinity
being a captive of your scrap of time
while touching eternity
being hopelessly uncertain
and helplessly hopeful
being a needle of frost
and a handful of heat
breathing in the air
and choking wordlessly
it’s being on fire
with a nest made of ashes
eating bread
while filling up on hunger
it’s dying without love
it’s loving through death

That’s funny said the bird
and flew effortlessly up into the air

Thank you for reading this week’s Happy List.

Be good to yourself and others this weekend.

I’ll see you back here on Monday.
