Happy List: #359

Hello! Welcome to this week’s Happy List. It’s so good to see you here.
This week on the blog I shared the gorgeous floor we uncovered in our Carriage House. I wish the rest of the building had that floor. Hubba Hubba!
I also wrote about the way I “fixed” a cracked wood bowl that I found on the side of the road. I love a good trash find, don’t you?
As always, thank you for being here today. It makes my day to share things with you that interested me, made me smile, or made me think this week. I hope it makes your day too. If you want to connect, and I hope you do, you can always comment on this blog post or email me here. You can also reach out on Instagram or Facebook.

Now on to the Happy List!

GLAMPING

This glamping situation on Whidbey Island is the closest thing to camping that I would even consider. Still not sure that I would do it, but I would be tempted because it is so well done.

More pictures over on the Scout and Nimble blog.

P.S. I love being out in nature but my attitude on camping is “Let’s do everything we do at home but make it harder.”

THIS IS SO COOL

NASA has a neat tool where you can type in your name and it will spell it for you in satellite photos.

Here’s Annisa spelled out in images from Kentucky, Bolivia, Iceland, Chad, and Azerbaijan.

It’s free. Go have fun and play around with it. Wouldn’t this be a neat way to teach kids about geography and geology? You can download the image too.

P.S. It doesn’t let you type in swear words. Ask my kids how they know. Hahaha!

DIY COPPER DISHWASHER PANEL

I am so tempted. Drew Michael Scott covered his stainless steel dishwasher with a copper panel and it looks amazing.

Domino featured his tutorial last year. It seems doable.

SO BOO CUTE

This cute ghost macrame wall hanging by the shop Macra Faye Me made me smile. That headband! The cheeks! Perfect for a situation where you want to be Halloween festive but not scary.

They ship from Canada to the U.S.

BATHMAT

This is the first time I’ve mentioned that in July we got a stone bathmat. It has been LIFE-CHANGING.

No more washing bathmats. No more musty smells. No more yelling at the kids for dripping water everywhere after a shower.

The stone bathmat is made from diatomaceous Earth and is super absorbent. It’s like magic. You see your wet footprint and then you don’t. You could stand there sopping wet and it will quickly soak up all the water. (My kids like to test its limits.)

It’s also super thin, so it’s not a tripping hazard. It’s not heavy to lift. It feels smooth, but not slippery. It comes in different sizes, colors, and patterns. I’m a huge fan.

P.S. I vacuum and mop it when I clean the rest of the bathroom floor. It also comes with a little piece of sandpaper should it get a stain.

SCAM HEADS UP

This isn’t “happy,” but you will be happier if you know in advance so you don’t worry.

If you get an email with a picture of your house saying they are going to release the data on your phone, don’t freak out. This is a scam. Handy Husband got one of these emails recently and the screenshot was of his truck parked in front of our house. The photos are likely pulled from Google Street View. It’s a very unsettling scam, but don’t fall for it.

You can read more about it over at 404 Media.

APPLE CIDER DONUTS

My kids have been asking me to make doughnuts. They love it when I bring home apple cider doughnuts from the store.

Culinary Hill has an Apple Cider Donut recipe that looks delicious. Tis the season!

POETRY MOMENT

III by Deborah Landau

Are we done with life? I am still so into it.
I like to drink and read and use my mouth
our bodies constellating in the smothering heat

as the trucks slam by, the song of a siren
has a sort of infinity in it, so too the poof
of dove on the sill, dropcloth of sheets, a drench,

the coming dusk, drizzle of sky
its fading and spanning-
days become decades and then-

(We belong to a generation of hideous inattention
clutching our rectangles of light like-
who am I talking to?)

Thank you for reading today’s Happy List.

Be good to yourself and others this weekend.

I’ll see you back here on Monday.
