Happy List: #423

Hi! Welcome to this week’s Happy List. I’m delighted to see you here.

This week on the blog, we talked about concrete and the problem it has posed in our basement. We also had a moment for the $20 thrifted brass table that’s now living on our sunporch. Who knows what varied topics next week will bring? Not me, and I write this blog. Uh, that might be a problem. Ha!

Thank you for choosing to spend a few minutes of your day here. I hope you have fun, learn something new today, and leave feeling inspired.

It truly makes my day to connect with you. I work alone. It’s fun to talk to people. If you want to reach out, please comment on this blog post or email me here. You can also direct message me on Instagram or Facebook.

Here’s the Happy List!

DREAMY

I’m not going to ruin it by getting nitpicky about counter space, so I’ll just say I’d gladly get ready for the day in this bathroom.

Can you imagine having space in your bathroom for a pedestal table with flowers? That would be the height of luxury for me.

SAINT VALENTINE

Did you know Saint Valentine’s remains are in Dublin, Ireland? That’s some ‘fun’ trivia to share on your Valentine’s Day date. I wrote a blog post about it years ago. You can check it out here.

A HAPPY BUILDING

This is the happiest ROOF of a building I have ever seen. It is the Lego House in Billund, Denmark. Lego House is an interactive museum that is described as Lego’s love letter to Billund, the place where Lego was founded.

The colorful roof is actually a series of terraces with playgrounds that are free to enjoy. The happiness compounds. Learn more here.

How hard would it be to get LEGO to design all building roofs? Should we start a petition?

WINNING GAME STRATEGIES

Do you play Battleship, Monopoly, Rock/Paper/Scissors, Guess Who, or word games? If so, the BBC’s Science Focus has strategies that will make you a winner at these games without cheating.

I would only play Monopoly under duress, but I found that winning strategy the most interesting.

Check it out here.

P.S. One time, I cut up old game boards and turned them into coasters. Not because I didn’t want to play the games. That was just a side perk. They were missing pieces. You can read about that here.

FLIP LIDS FOR MASON JARS

Usually, I wait longer than a week to make sure I love something before sharing it on the Happy List, but I’m too excited.

Did you know flip lids with pour spouts for mason jars are a thing? Am I the last to know this? I probably am. I chose this version because it had less plastic, and I don’t have to keep track of a lid for the pour spout. So far, so life-changing.

P.S. This is simple syrup. I want to use another one of the lids for our homemade ranch dressing, but I make that a little too thick. Not sure if I’m willing to compromise on that. I might use it for our homemade hot sauce or maybe the jar of lemonade.

SO INVITING

There are so many ideas to glean from this Brooklyn kitchen. The use of marble and tile on the backsplash. The green cabinets. The curtains. Plants in the kitchen. A window seat. Beams and more beams.

You can see additional photos of this home over at Frederic Magazine.

KOREAN BEEF NACHOS

I’m intrigued by this Korean Beef Nacho recipe from Damn Delicious and ready to mix things up around here.

P.S. For Valentine’s Day, I always make these Red Velvet Gooey Butter Cookies from TidyMom. The recipe uses a cake mix, and it might be my family’s all-time favorite cookie.
