Happy List: #428

Hello! Welcome to this week’s Happy List. I am so glad to see you here.

This week on the blog, I shared the wood pedestal I made for Easter. I had so much fun crafting with the mini wood eggs that were the star of that craft.

I also published the latest installment in our Basement Workshop Repointing series. Yep, still working on that project. Hahahaha! DIY might save us money, but it also costs us time.

I hope this Happy List, and the blog in general, are a respite from the mayhem that is the internet. If you want to reach out, and I hope you do, please comment on this blog post or email me here. You can also direct message me on Instagram or Facebook.

Here’s the Happy List!

CERAMIC BUTTERFLIES

Lucy from Craftberry Bush made the prettiest ceramic butterflies. Or, rather, she decorated the prettiest ceramic butterflies. This is a Dollar Store craft, and you’ll be shocked at the difference. The metamorphosis, shall we say, is amazing.

Check it out here.

JACQUARD BALLCAP

You don’t know how badly I wish this jacquard ballcap came in a visor version. I don’t have hat hair, so I always opt for visors, but they are never this pretty.

The bill comes in different colors. Check it out on Etsy.

MADE ME LAUGH

If you need a laugh, check out the tongue-in-cheek short article “Party Games for Fifty-Somethings” by Adam Peltzman. I’m not even 50, and I found the list hilariously relatable.

Here’s an excerpt of one of the “party games.”

“Pin the Colonoscopy Reminder on the Calendar
Players are blindfolded, spun around, and handed a sticker from their local gastroenterology clinic. The person who places the sticker closest to the second Tuesday in March receives a twelve-pack of Italian ice without red dye. (Optional: To really let loose, each player drinks a full bottle of Suprep an hour before the party.)”

P.S. Regular colonoscopy screenings start at age 45 now!

DINING CHAIR SWING

Why didn’t I think of this? Have you ever seen a front porch swing made from a dining chair?

Amanda Hervey has the directions on how she transformed her dining chairs. A quick Google search shows there are other options on how to do this.

The point is, if you see a free rickety roadside chair, scoop it up and turn it into a swing!

CHANNEL SURFER

ChannelSurfer.tv is a “retro TV guide that turns YouTube into live cable TV. Each channel plays videos on a deterministic schedule — like real TV, you tune in mid-show.”

I LOVED finding this website. I can’t explain it, but it’s so satisfying. You can load your own favorite YouTube channels to personalize the site to your viewing habits.

Here’s a screenshot of how it looks.

DAWN POWER WASH

There must be at least one of you who uses Dawn Power Wash for your dish soap here in the U.S.

Someone on Etsy had the brilliant idea to make neoprene sleeves or covers for these bottles. This hyper-specific solution delights me to no end, and I don’t even use this brand of soap. The comments say that the seller helped them source a black top for the bottle, so they didn’t have to use the blue one.

PEANUT BUTTER YOGURT BITES

I know we are a protein-obsessed society right now. Has anyone ever made yogurt bites? Is it worth it? Do they taste good, or is this just an excuse to consume more chocolate? I’m fine with excuses.

This Peanut Butter Yogurt Bites recipe from Homemade Heather looks easy and yummy.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

“If you continue to work and to absorb the beauty in the world about you, you find that age does not necessarily mean getting old. At least, not in the ordinary sense. I feel many things more intensely than ever before, and for me life grows more fascinating.

I go to the piano, and I play two preludes and fugues of Bach. I cannot think of doing otherwise. It is a sort of benediction on the house. But that is not its only meaning for me. It is a rediscovery of the world of which I have the joy of being a part. It fills me with awareness of the wonder of life, with a feeling of the incredible marvel of being a human being. The music is never the same for me, never. Each day is something new, fantastic, unbelievable. That is Bach, like nature, a miracle!”

The world needs more gentleness. Be good to yourself and others this weekend.

I’ll see you back here on Monday.
