Happy List: #197

Hello! Welcome back to another edition of the Happy list!

This week I shared the new rug for our bedroom. We spend a fair amount of time just hanging out in our bedroom because it is large enough for a seating area, so it feels good that this room is coming together. Slowly but surely.

I also shared a round up of my favorite leather decorating and craft ideas. I hope one of these ideas inspires you to create something fabulous for your home!

If you want to check out what projects we are working on this weekend, please follow along on Facebook or Instagram stories. I enjoy interacting with you there!

Now, here’s the Happy List!

VINYL WRAPPED RANGE

The interior design work of Leanne Ford often inspires me, but this latest project is NEXT LEVEL.

Leanne had a very expensive range that she bought in a specific color. When the plans for her house changed, instead of ordering a new range, she covered the visible parts of the range in pink vinyl. Think the kind of vinyl that they wrap cars in for those custom advertising messages or designs. That’s a pretty creative solution.

I like knowing that professional designers use money saving hacks on their projects.

Go read all about it in this Domino article

THE WALRUS WORKOUT

If the Irish dance workout from last week wasn’t your thing, how about about the walrus workout?

This one is brilliant because in between exercises you get a snack!

WOVEN SHELF

This is a DIY I’d like to try. It looks so satisfying, doesn’t it?

Lita Lee has a handy tutorial about not just making this shelf, but an IKEA nightstand hack too in this Domino article.

KIDS SAY THE FUNNIEST THINGS

I have not shared something funny my kids have said in awhile. Maybe there were just funnier as little kids? Who knows.

To set this story up, I was teaching my 10-year-old how to iron. (His future spouse can thank me later.)

He was enthralled with the iron mainly because there’s an element of danger. He had spent a good 20 minutes ironing the same pair of flannel pajama pants over and over. His pants, not mine. I wasn’t going to risk him ruining something of mine!

He wanted to understand how the iron worked, what the various buttons and dials did, why steam releases wrinkles, etc. There were SO MANY questions.

Here’s the last part of our conversation:

Me: Do you know what this flap does?

10 yo: Nope.

Me: You lift it up and that’s where you put the water in the iron to make steam.

10 yo: I wonder what would happen if you put ketchup in there instead?

Me:

10 yo:

Me: *busts out laughing*

His question did make me think about the viscosity of ketchup vs. water. I almost want to sacrifice my iron to see if it would squirt out ketchup!

COLORED PENCIL GLOBE

Why, yes. My obsession with wood turning continues.

Andy Phillip turned colored pencils into a globe! If that’s not the coolest thing ever…

I DID NOT KNOW

I did not know that Windsor Castle in England is the longest continuously occupied castle in the world.

You can read a brief history of the castle in this article. I agree with the author that it is amazing that the castle did not get bombed during WWII.

FAVORITE NEW PANTS

I bought some new workout pants from Target and by “workout” I mean “staying at home” pants.

See how these pants aren’t tight on the legs and butt? It is as if someone finally heard my cellulite’s our cries!

I bought a black pair and they don’t look at all faded in person as they do on this model. They are a true black color. I sized up to a large (I’m a size 8), but I probably should have gotten a medium because they are a little loose in the waist. (Maybe it’s the walrus workout.)

They have pockets too! The olive color is next on my list.

SO CUTE

Using a pencil eraser to make a heart stamp is such a fun idea, especially if you don’t keep random stamps on hand. Just make one!

SOMETHING TO PONDER

“There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.” – Isaac Asimov

Asimov was a writer and professor of biochemistry at Boston University. He died in 1992.

Thank you for reading today’s Happy List! I hope it made you smile.

I’ll see you back here on Monday.

In the meantime, be good to yourself and others.
