Happy List: #253

Hello! Welcome to the Happy List.

Happy Good Friday and Easter to those of you who celebrate those occasions!

This week on the blog I shared how to make wood-burned dice. I hope you give that project a try someday.

I also mused on the blog about why small projects feel so large prior to starting them. My brain really messes me up on that one!

As a friendly but slightly awkward reminder, if you see something you enjoy here or on Instagram or Facebook, please share it, save it, like it, or even send a good thought into the universe. It really helps out!

Now, here’s the Happy List!

This is so true!

MUSEUM OF ENDANGERED SOUNDS

There’s a website called the Museum of Endangered Sounds that is cataloging sounds that might disappear from our collective memory.

I have heard most of the sounds on the site. I guarantee my kids have NOT.

Go check out the website and see how many you or your kids or grandkids recognize. It’s a lot of fun…and a bit depressing. Ha!

FURNITURE IN THE BATHROOM

If you have the luxury of space, I love this idea of furniture in the bathroom to hold towels and other necessities. This is a new build in Utah by W Design Collective, but it reminds me of a vintage bathroom.

See more pictures of this home here.

MUSIC EGGS

Here’s a last-minute idea from the archives for decorating eggs for Easter.

Put a little sheet music on it!  The tutorial can be found here.

WHERE FOLKS ARE MOVING IN THE U.S.

Atlas Van Lines released their annual list of which states people are moving to and which states people are leaving.

I can tell you this. Y’all aren’t moving to New Jersey. Hahahahahaha!

What I found most interesting about the data was the Midwest region. According to Atlas Van Lines, the Midwest reported the highest number of outbound states in the Top 10 (meaning people are leaving) and for the fifth year in a row had zero inbound states (meaning they aren’t growing from migration).

CHANGING HOUSEHOLD TYPES

Since we are on the subject of families, I found the following interactive chart presented by Nathan Yau at Flowing Data to be so interesting. It charts how household types have changed from 1970 to 2014. Many more people are living alone now and families are smaller.

You’ll have to click on this link to go to the interactive chart.

Flowing Data is one of my favorite websites. They present information in a way that makes it easy to visualize.

BABY GIFT

Know someone having a baby this year? This personalized baby block from Glitzby on Etsy would make a wonderful keepsake. It costs around $25. This Florida shop has a 5-star rating and over 20,000 sales.

The block looks huge in the picture, but it’s only 2-inch x 2-inch.

DIY CHANNEL-TUFTED BANQUETTE

The women at A Beautiful Mess never cease to amaze me! Look at this DIY channel-tufted banquette!

I read the tutorial and felt even I could figure this out…maybe with a little sewing help.

PERSONALIZED RECIPE BOOK

I was wowed by this personalized recipe book by Janney Leather on Etsy. Isn’t the cover gorgeous? This is something that could be passed down through the generations.
