Why You Need House Tools In a Distinct Color

Do you have a set of house tools? It took us twenty years to realize a set of house tools that stay in the house would make life so much easier.

Quick learners? Not so much.

We typically store our tools in a garage or shed as most people do. However, in our current house, there is no door between the garage and house so you have to go outside if you want to get anything out of the garage.

I mentioned to my husband that I needed a house hammer for hanging pictures. I didn’t want to run out to the garage every time I needed to get the hammer and then have to return the hammer to the garage.

I know, I know. That’s incredibly lazy.

I make no apologies for it.

So what does my husband do? He bought me a set of the girliest tools in the color pink for Christmas one year.

I think he intended them to be a bit of a gag gift because we are not short on tools around here. After all, we’ve been DIYing longer than DIYing was a term. The last thing we need is a ridiculous-looking pink hammer.

Since he went all out and bought a 71-piece toolset in a handy carrying case we also had ridiculous-looking pink pliers, screwdrivers, level, tape measure, utility knife, etc.

I don’t have anything against the color pink, but these tools were SO obnoxious looking with their distinct color.

And that’s what made these house tools ABSOLUTELY perfect.

Why?

The distinct color makes these tools easily identifiable as the house tools. Everyone in the house, even the kids, knows exactly where to find the house tools and where to return them when they are finished using them. No one is stealing the bright pink tools. Ha!

As it turns out, I’m not the only one who doesn’t like to run out to the garage every time we need a tool to fix something small.

I would venture to say Handy Husband uses the pink house tools almost as often as I do. He doesn’t want to claim them as his own, but he’s happy to use them if it means not having to run out to the garage in the pouring rain.

In fact, we use the house tools so frequently that it became clear we were not capable of returning them nicely to their carrying case. It’s that lazy thing again.

It is more convenient for us to store the most used tools in the set in this mesh organizer (similar) that hangs in my craft closet. I keep scissors, a plastic scraper, a ruler, sandpaper, etc. in this mesh organizer too.

House tools in a distinct color that makes them easily identifiable have been a game changer for us.

Fixing stuff that breaks might be a chore, but the convenience of having house tools easily accessible makes the chore feel a little less chore-like.

That’s a win for our household.

Happy DIYing!

P.S. The 71-piece pink toolset we have also comes in red. I do think this would be a great gift for a college student, someone moving into their first apartment or someone who needs a set of house tools. This set has an almost 5-star rating out of over 800 reviews. I do like the hammer in the set because it isn’t as heavy as our “proper” hammers.

The mesh organizer we have is unavailable, but this one (it’s a shower caddy) is very similar, inexpensive, and has great reviews.

P.P.S. I think there is a great opportunity for tool companies to make tools that function well for people with smaller hands, less hand strength, or physical limitations like arthritis.
