Happy List: #348
Hello, hello! Welcome to this week’s Happy List. I am so excited you are here.
It was a dramatic week on the blog. I shared where I installed a time capsule in our basement AND what I included inside of it. Was there treasure? You’ll have to go read the blog post to find out. My lips are sealed.
We also celebrated our 5 year house anniversary. House-iversary? However you say it, it’s been a wild ride. I included some never before published photos in that blog post!
As always, thank you for being here. Thank you for cheering us on every step of the way. I know your time is valuable and I enjoy being able to connect with you. I’ve made the best online friends through this website. If you want to connect, and I hope you do, you can always comment on this blog post or email me here. You can also reach out on Instagram or Facebook.
Enjoy this week’s Happy List!
CHEERFUL
Who likes a colorful, cheerful home? If that’s you, you’ll enjoy this 15th century home makeover in Sussex.
I enjoyed how the designer, Phoebe Holland, used different colored shades on this light. It’s so fun and playful. You wouldn’t think it would work, but it does when paired with everything else in the room. See more photos of this home by Mark Roper here.

DIY MARBLE PEDESTAL
Jen Hadfield from Tatertots and Jello made this marble stand WITHOUT using a tile saw. No tools at all were needed. So, so clever.
This is the type of thing where you could make one for yourself and make one to use as a gift.
See how she did it here.

SMILE
Did you hear about this? The world’s first tooth-regrowing drug will be given to humans in September. If this works, it could be a game changer to kids who are born with congenital tooth deficiency or people who lose teeth for any number of reasons.
What a great time to be alive. Go scientists! Learn more here.
P.S. Needed a picture for this story. Thought a smiley face out of almonds would be a solid choice. May regret that later. Haha!
CABIN LIFE
I would love to vacation at a cabin like this one designed by Meriwether Design Group.
I know spiral staircases are impractical but if you are a kid they are magical. Also, this photo made me realize how I could have that indoor/outdoor lifestyle without the bugs. Those doors open onto a screened-in porch. Brilliant!
See more photos of how that porch works here.

FIRST AID KIT
Need a first aid kit for your summer adventures?
A couple of months ago I purchased a more comprehensive first aid kit to pack in the car with us when we go on day trips to hike or bike. It’s the perfect size to fit in a backpack or in the trunk of your car. I opened it for the first time this weekend and was pleasantly surprised at all the options I had for bandaging an awkward spot on my son’s hand.
He’s fine, don’t worry.

P.S. A lot of kids will be leaving home for the first time this summer. A first aid kit is something they probably don’t want but will need at some point.
4TH OF JULY CRAFT
4th of July, for my fellow Americans, is less than a month away. Here’s a craft from the archives that might inspire you this year.
I used a metal sifter to make an outline of the U.S. using embroidery thread. Details here.
Just remember that you can’t use white thread if the wreath is going on a white background. I learned that one the hard way. Ha!
CRISPY ZUCCHINI BLACK BEAN TACOS
I know some of you are going to have loads of zucchini on your hands soon. These crispy zucchini black bean tacos from Gimme Some Oven look really tasty.
Gah! I’m so hungry right now.

POETRY MOMENT
Mornings at Blackwater by Mary Oliver
For years, every morning, I drank
from Blackwater Pond.
It was flavored with oak leaves and also, no doubt,
the feet of ducks.
And always it assuaged
me from the dry bowl of the very far past.
What I want to say is
that the past is the past,
and the present is what your life is,
and you are capable
of choosing what that will be,
darling citizen.
So come to the pond,
or the river of your imagination,
or the harbor of your longing,
and put your lips to the world.
And live
your life.
Thank you for reading today’s Happy List.
Be good to yourself and others this weekend.
I’ll see you back here on Monday.
