Happy List: #426

Hi! Welcome to this week’s Happy List. I’m thrilled to see you here.

This week on the blog, I answered the most frequently asked questions about lime mortar that I get from social media. Hyper-specific blog posts are my specialty, so don’t feel bad if this one wasn’t for you. I’m sure I’ll eventually get to something that’s right up your alley.

I also shared the progress we’ve made on our basement workshop repointing project. There’s something about reaching the halfway point that makes you think you can make it to the end. Of course, we also save the hard parts for the end of the project, so there’s that, too.

I’ve said it multiple times. It truly makes my day to connect with you and hear what’s of interest to you in your world. If you want to reach out, please comment on this blog post or email me here. You can also direct message me on Instagram or Facebook.

Here’s the Happy List!

BADMINTON

A badminton facility in India looks like a shuttlecock when it is lit up at night. Can you imagine the planning meetings, “Just hear me out. What if…What if we made the whole building look like the birdie you’re batting around?”

Tip of my racquet to the architect, Studio Archohm.

See how this facility looks during the day at Moss and Fog.

AMAZING DOORS

Never have I seen doors like these in this Swedish apartment. Talk about amazing! More photos of this apartment can be found at The Nordroom.

COLORFUL CAR PARK

British artist Liz West has created a rainbow glow using pigmented theater gels on one level of a parking garage. The art installation is called ‘One Colour.’

I’m here for this type of happy, fun art in an otherwise boring place. Learn more about the art and the process at This is Colossal.

DIY CHECK PRINT BOWLS

I can’t decide if it would be maddening or thrilling to make a check print bowl with different colored oven bake clay. I’m not a perfectionist, so I’m going to go with thrilling. There are so many possibilities for different designs you could make with the clay.

Get the directions and details on the clay over at Paper and Stitch.

EASTER EMPTY TOMB DISPLAY

Saw this empty tomb display on Etsy and thought it would be great Easter decor for your home or church. Easter is April 5 this year, so now’s the time to get it, or to make something inspired by it. I know many of you have wood scraps lying around.

FUN THING

Type “Punch the monkey” into Google and watch what happens.

(Don’t know how long this will last, so try it now. For future reference, Punch is the name of a monkey.)

DIY HANDKERCHIEF WREATH

Here’s a fun way from Lora Bloomquist to use those vintage hankies you might have in a drawer. This idea would also work with cloth napkins.

I think there might even be a way to turn this idea into a bunny wreath. Get the directions here.

CARMELIZED BEEF AND PEANUT NOODLES

Trying this Carmelized Beef and Peanut Noodles recipe from Pinch of Yum this week. I’ve never added corn starch to ground beef to carmelize it.

POETRY MOMENT

ANOTHER ATTEMPT AT THE TELLING by Vievee Francis

The secret story is the one we’ll never know, although we’re living it from day to day…
-Roberto Bolaño

But-
we do know the secret story. At least, we each know our own secret
story, and when we grow brave enough might share it,
and if the party we share it with is honest, they might admit
their own, and from there, hands held, we walk into the grotto
and dip our hands into the cold waters, or meander up
a darkened stairwell into the sweet musk of a bookshop, or
descend into a speakeasy beyond a roped velvet curtain.
The secret to knowing the secret is to speak, but we too often tell
the stories of no matter and avoid the one story that does matter.
In truth, we are bound by one story, so you’d think by now
we’d tell it, at least to each other.

Thank you for reading this week’s Happy List.

Be good to yourself and others this weekend.

I’ll see you back here on Monday.
