We are currently enjoying and exploring Tybee Island, Georgia. If I was prone to squealing with delight, this would definitely be the occasion for it. This is our first time on the island and one thing our whole family loves is exploring new places. For 3 out of the 4 of us, it is our first time to the Atlantic Ocean too! We Went to the Lake and I Didn’t Want to Leave
We live really close to the Chattahoochee River. So close, we can walk to it. I regularly see a lot people on the river: rowing team, kayakers, inner tubers, etc. They all look like they are having a grand ol’ time. Except. Well, I can’t seem to get over how gross the water looks. I realize slow moving rivers can look a little murkier than fast moving ones. A Boy and a Train
I met a train conductor once. An actual, real life conductor. He didn’t necessarily fill my preconceived notions of what a conductor should look like, which are honestly, completely colored by reading one million and one Thomas the Train books. It struck me as funny at the time that trains are fascinating to little boys and that railcars play a huge role in the movement of goods in this country. Finally! A Family Picture!
This week we have friends visiting from Oregon! We are zooming one hundred miles an hour on all things fun, touristy and relaxing. It leaves no time for crafty projects, but it is so much more fulfilling. Yesterday we visited Stone Mountain Park in the evening and took in the laser show. I’ll tell you about it later! How to Get a Boy to Play My Little Pony
My daughter was OBSESSED with My Little Pony for a long time. We have amassed quite a collection. My daughter doesn’t play with them as much now that she has turned 7, but sometimes they make their way into toy rotation. My son couldn’t care less about the ponies. It doesn’t matter how much my daughter begs for him to play with her. So, imagine my surprise when I discovered they had found a compromise. Those naughty ponies must have been speeding. Good thing the cops are patrolling the hallway. Children playing nicely together makes me very, very happy! How about you? Share this:
Weekend Fun
Dear Summer, Please don’t ever let your sunshiny goodness leave us. Actually Enjoying the Beach
The beaches in the Pacific Northwest are epic. Big waves, amazing rock formations and unbelievable views. Oh, and did I mention cold? How about windy? Check and check. Don’t get me wrong. There are those few precious days of warm temperatures and no wind and we savor them. If it gets really hot, little kids might “play” in the water, but no one is swimming. The only time I have experienced actually swimming in a warm ocean was in Maui. (I know, woe is me.) Shades
Last year we went to a 4th of July parade in a small Oregon town. I love a good parade. The sense of community. The Americana vibe. High school marching bands. The sense of unity – at least for an hour – between townsfolk. The possibility of kettle corn. My kids love the candy. Just keeping it real. If candy collecting was an Olympic sport… The local frozen yogurt place had a float in the parade. By float I mean a pickup truck with a banner attached. Tomato. Tom-ah-to. Skating: It’s Harder Than It Looks
Right across the street from the Hubby’s office is an ice rink. Not only that, but they have a roller skating rink too. I know, cool, right? So, of course, we had to check it out! We picked Jeff up early from work one Friday afternoon (shhhh!) and headed on over. This was the second time Annika has been ice skating and she LOVES it.
