10 Wedding Gifts We Still Use 25 Years Later
Every time I pull out our popcorn maker I think to myself, “We got this for our wedding.”
Well, I’ve now been saying that for 25 years. Twenty. Five. That’s a lot of popcorn!
It’s hard to believe we reached that anniversary milestone earlier this year. It doesn’t feel like we’ve been married that long.
But it did get me thinking. What other wedding gifts do we still use 25 years later?
I’m going to share mine and I thought it would be fun, no matter how long you’ve been married, to see if you have and use some of the same things. Or maybe you have different wedding gifts that you still use. What are they?
Let’s compare notes and see which gifts stand the test of time!
Wedding Gifts We Still Use 25 Years Later – Popcorn Popper
Do any of you have one of these twist-handle popcorn poppers? Ours is the Theater II, but there is also the Whirley Pop brand.
This is the only popcorn popper we’ve ever had and it still works like a charm. We’ve gone through periods where we didn’t pop popcorn often, but I make it once a week now, usually on Saturday nights.
I will say, this popcorn popper is well-seasoned on the inside after 25 years of use!
Wedding Gifts We Still Use 25 Years Later – Cookbook
I’ve never collected cookbooks, but I do have a couple including this Best of Baking Betty Crocker cookbook we received for our wedding.
There are probably three or four recipes in this cookbook that I’ve made consistently over the years.
I love that they included a note on the inside cover of the cookbook. Definitely made it a more personalized gift.
Wedding Gifts We Still Use 25 Years Later – Pizza Pan
This pizza pan was decidedly not black back in 1999 when we got married. It is the most “seasoned” pan we own and also my favorite to use.
This very basic pan cooks vegetables, french fries, pizza, etc. like a champ.
Wedding Gifts We Still Use 25 Years Later – Silver Coins
A family friend gifted us two silver coins. That’s not your run-of-the-mill wedding gift!
There was a Bible verse accompanying the coins mentioning something to the effect of choosing understanding over silver.
But since we’re all curious, 25 years ago, silver was roughly worth $5 per troy ounce. It’s now $27(ish) per troy ounce.
We’re sitting on 50 bucks now, but maybe if we wait until our 50th anniversary those silver coins will be worth $100. Or it might go back to $5 and we’ll be super understanding about it.
Wedding Gifts We Still Use 25 Years Later – Measuring Cups and Spoons
I’m not sure everyone would appreciate receiving measuring cups and spoons as a wedding gift, but I did. We were young when we got married and desperately needed all the basics.
I’ve never purchased measuring cups and spoons for myself because the ones I received (two sets) worked and still work just fine.
P.S. We do have a 1/3 measuring cup but it is being used as a cat food scoop. *sigh*
P.P.S. If I were going to purchase measuring spoons right now, I’d get some that fit inside the spice jars like these narrow ones.
Wedding Gifts We Still Use 25 Years Later – Knife
Handy Husband’s aunt and uncle gifted us a knife set when we got married. Good knives are expensive! I know this because we have purchased knives over the years.
However, we still have the scissors and one of the knives from that gifted set. I consider this knife to be my watermelon knife. That’s usually what I use it for because the blade is so long.
Wedding Gifts We Still Use 25 Years Later – Pfaltzgraff Dinnerware
I am currently drinking my coffee from a cup out of the Pfaltzgraff dinnerware set I received for our wedding 25 years ago. They were quality dishes and I’m sentimentally attached to them.
I have rotated these dishes out periodically. I had red dishes for a while. We currently have white bowls and plates, but I still use these cups. I’ll rotate the bowls back into rotation when I get tired of the white dishes. It’s fun to be able to switch things up!
I just realized this pattern, Rio, is still available from Pfaltzgraff. I figured it would have been discontinued long ago, but that farmhouse style is lasting, I suppose.
Wedding Gifts We Still Use 25 Years Later – Pyrex Baking Dishes
I cannot be the only one with this particular Pyrex casserole dish with the blue lid.
It is one of my most used wedding gifts and it came with a carrying case and warming pad. The warming pad and case did not survive 25 years of use. I think they gave up the ghost around year 20, but the baking dish and lid are still going strong and used weekly.
P.S. I just checked and Pyrex casserole dishes with the lid, carrying case, and warming pad are still made and sold new here. They are a lot more expensive than the generic versions. I truly don’t know if the quality is any different though since all of my casserole dishes are the Pyrex brand and are 25 years old. Ha!
Wedding Gifts We Still Use 25 Years Later – Crystal Vase
Either crystal bowls and vases were popular when I got married or I thought that’s what sophisticated married people decorated their homes with. Either way, I ended up with several vases and bowls.
I don’t know that I was ever actually sophisticated (haha!), but I do think crystal vases and bowls are pretty and they still get used from time to time.
Wedding Gifts We Still Use 25 Years Later – Quilt
On the back of my couch is a quilt made by one of the ladies from the church we attended as kids.
A bunch of us from the same church got married all around the same time and she made quilts for each couple. Isn’t that special? I didn’t appreciate it at the time, but when I look at it now I realize how much time she put into this gift and that makes this quilt even more special.
As you can see, most of the items we received as wedding gifts were kitchen-related. We were pretty young when we got married and I was living with my parents, so we mainly registered for household basics.
I’m sure if we got married in our 30s, our wedding gifts would look different. I haven’t been to a wedding in a while, but I’m pretty sure the last one I went to, I gifted the couple cash. Cash is always appreciated, but it probably isn’t kept for 25 years!
How long have you been married and what wedding gifts did you receive that you still use? I’m so excited to hear what you have to say. You can always comment on this blog post, email us here, or reach out via Instagram or Facebook.
Wishing you all a happily ever after!
