7 Heart Crafts To Make Out of Wood That Aren’t Cheesy

DIY rustic wood hearts

We are rapidly approaching February, the month of love. But why wait? You can start spreading love around now with these 7 heart crafts made out of wood.

These heart crafts will give you all the mushy feelings, but these are not cheesy crafts for kids. They are fun, festive, and a few might even be a bit refined.

I think you’ll love them. Here we go…

Heart Planters

Instead of gifting over-priced cut flowers that will die in a week, gift a plant in a heart-shaped planter that should last longer than a week…as long as someone remembers to water it.

I created a free template to use for cutting the wood to make this planter. Check it out here.

Wood Heart Bracelet

It’s not a diamond, but you can carve your initials in this wood heart bracelet like the lovestruck, romantic you are. Or maybe use a permanent marker because that seems safer.

There are so many ways you could use these wood heart beads. They come in a pack of 50!

Get the directions on how to make the bracelet here.

Rustic Wood Hearts

Have access to any reclaimed wood? How about wood scraps? The more character the wood has, the better to make rustic wood hearts.

See how to make these hearts here. It’s not as tempting as a bowl of chocolate hearts, but they’ll look great sitting in a bowl on your coffee table.

2×4 Wood Hearts

Wood hearts but make them bigger!

Are we getting into semantics now? Perhaps. However, these 2×4 wood hearts are different from the rustic wood hearts above because they can sit up on their sides so that you can display them on a shelf.

Try using different stain colors on them or you could paint them too.

Get more information here.

Wood and Brass Hearts

If the 2×4 wood hearts above were the equivalent of dating, these wood and brass hearts are like getting engaged. Basically, we’re leveling up the basic 2×4 heart with a gorgeous brass edge.

Did you know you can buy brass for crafting purposes in sheet rolls? You don’t need fancy tools to work with it as it can be cut with scissors. It’s the best thing ever.

More details can be found here.

Wood Heart Magnets

These wood heart magnets are special because my mom made them! They are probably 35 years old now.

Even the most basic of craft supplies, like small, precut wood hearts, can be used to create a long-lasting and practical bit of home decor. We use these heart magnets year-round in our house.

Check out the how-to here.

Terracotta Gnome With a Wood Heart Nose

I admit this little gnome is not at all refined, but he is fun!

I used a wood heart bead (leftover from the bracelet project) to make the gnome nose, but you could cut one out of card stock or felt too.

All the details, including how I kept the hanger from slipping out of the drip hole in the planter can be found here.

I’m not sure yet if I’ll have any other Valentine’s Day crafts up my sleeve for this year. I go wherever the creative muse takes me. Some years she’s into Valentine’s Day and other years she is looking ahead to spring and summer.

How do you feel about Valentine’s Day? How about Valentine’s Day candy? Let me know. You can always comment on this blog post, email me here, or reach out via Instagram or Facebook.

Happy Crafting!
