Give Gingham a Second Look

If recently decorating with two gingham things counts as a gingham kick, then I am on one, and happily so.

I’m not exactly sure why (commercial conditioning, perhaps?), but gingham prints feel so happy, carefree, and perfect for spring.

Given the way my brain perceives gingham, it’s no coincidence that right after Christmas, in the dead of a nasty winter when the landscape was bleak, and I was feeling blah, I bought gingham sheets for our bedroom. Manifesting an early spring with new gingham sheets did not work (shocking, I know), but it did brighten my day to see our bedroom with an extra bit of color.

I take my wins where I can get them.

Then, on the first day of spring, I stumbled on a blue gingham shower curtain while thrifting that just so happened to be the exact color of the blue tiles in our upstairs bathroom.

It seemed like a sign from the universe.

What was that sign? Hmm. Let’s go with gingham therapy is real, and it might be the playful print and punch of color we all need right now.

Here are some fun ways I found to incorporate gingham into your home and wardrobe. Oh, yes. We’re going there. No closet is safe.

Gingham Swivel Sconce | Magnolia

Magnolia has gingham lamp shades for regular lamps and for these sconces. I had to close my eyes and let my mouse do the picking to decide which one to share with you.

Gingham Ruffled Tablecloth | Amazon

There’s a time and place for ruffles, and this gingham tablecloth comes in green, blue, red, and pink.

Gingham Shirt | JCrew

I can see this red gingham shirt looking great with jeans, white shorts, and even a floral print skirt.

Gingham Balloon Garland | Target

These reusable “balloons” seem like inflatable balls to me, but semantics aside, these are a cute addition to a balloon garland.

Gingham Picture Frame | Magnolia

Here’s an idea that you could take and DIY. Cover a picture frame mat with gingham fabric or paper. It’s so lovely.

Gingham Baby Bloomers | Etsy

For the love of ovaries everywhere, someone please buy these for your grandchild, niece, or nephew.

Gingham Dishes | West Elm

The size of this print may be venturing into buffalo check territory instead of gingham, but I’ll allow it for the happy factor.

Gingham Upholstered Headboard | Wayfair

Sometimes, it’s the color that takes a print from cute to classy. I could make this headboard look amazing in any bedroom in our house. It would pair so well with most any color – blues, greens, neutrals.

Ruffled Gingham Napkins | Anthropologie

Here’s another case for ruffles, especially if the ruffled tablecloth is too much. Also, I’m digging the flower tucked into the napkin.

Custom Applique Gingham Sweatshirt | Etsy

I’m not usually into school or team spirit, but I would make an exception for gingham. This Etsy shop will put any custom name on the sweatshirt.

Isn’t it fun to see all the different ways gingham fabric can be used? It’s so inspiring to me. I have a feeling my gingham kick might go on for a while longer now that I’ve checked out so many options on the ol’ interwebs.

Have I convinced you to give gingham a chance this spring?

Happy Spring!

P.S. The cotton gingham sheets I purchased come in different colors. I’d say these sheets are maybe just slightly less soft than Target’s Threshold brand of sheets, and so far, they’ve exceeded my expectations.

P.P.S. I did have to Google the difference between buffalo check and gingham. It seems that the size of the print (buffalo check is larger) and the type of fabric used are the biggest differences. Buffalo check is more commonly associated with heavier fabrics. I have buffalo check curtains in our kitchen and by our front door.
