The Painting I Rescued From the Trash

    December 10, 2018 /

Here’s some advice to live by: always go for a walk around the neighborhood the night before garbage day. Trust me! You never know what treasures you might find just sitting on the curb waiting for the garbage truck to be discovered. Earlier this fall I took one of these walks. It was late afternoon. The air was crisp. The leaves were still glorious. There wasn’t a soul in sight. That’s when I spotted it. Do you see it? A painting sitting with a pile of trash at the end of someone’s driveway. They’d left it there to be collected by the garbage truck. Or me. Their intent could have gone either…

What Should I Do With This Junky Treasure?

    January 10, 2018 /

If you’ve been following along on this blog – and thank you for doing that – you’ll remember I talked about our sidewalks being torn up and the amazing memento I now have from the tree that was cut down during the process. I’m not sure if I mentioned it, but our driveway apron was torn up too. A few weeks after the new concrete was poured, I cleaned out the flowerbeds next to the driveway. Yes, I occasionally do tend to my flowerbeds. I swear! Do you know what I found when I was weeding that day? A glorious junky treasure! Talk about chippy perfection! It’s a piece of gate…

House Number Sign From Wooden Spool

    June 28, 2017 /

It’s been quite awhile since I’ve shared a Junk Whisperer project. I missed them! I missed The Junk Whisperer more though. And yes, that is shameless flattery. I’ve invaded her home and I need all the brownie points I can get. Me + Children = Lots of noise, mess and groceries. Now, back to the point of this post: a good “why didn’t I think of that” project. When The Junk Whisperer shares her projects with me I usually have nothing more clever to say than, “that is SUCH a good idea!” over and over and OVER. It’s mildly embarrassing. This project started with an old wooden spool, similar to…

    Happy Birthday Junk Whisperer

    August 3, 2016 /

The Junk Whisperer had a birthday yesterday. She’s going to be SUPER glad I’m mentioning this milestone. And she’s probably wondering if I’m going to share that EPIC photo of her showing my kids how to do a cartwheel. I’m not. The thought did cross my mind though. Briefly. Ever so briefly. I simply want to wish her a very happy birthday and a year full of blessings. And hopefully international travel. To a little island called Ireland. I also want to tell her thank you. Thank you for sharing her life with my dad. I can go off on these adventures because I know he’s not alone. Thank you…
