Boo! Halloween Mantel

It’s a boo-tiful day to share my Halloween mantel with you!

That ghost pun was cheekily intended because the boo sign I painted is the centerpiece of this year’s Halloween mantel. It is simple, playful, and won’t take up hardly any space in storage!

I enjoy the fun of Halloween and, let’s be honest, the candy too.

I don’t do scary though. Nope. Not my thing. I’ll pass on the haunted houses. I don’t even like going into my attic after dark.

I’ll stick with a sugar rush and leave the adrenaline rush to the rest of you ghouls.

Speaking of ghosts and ghouls, I have heard some stories about our house being haunted.

It is old enough (circa 1700s) to have experienced many births and deaths, so if you believe in the spirit life, I suppose it is possible that the house is haunted.

However, I’m pretty sure all the creaks and groans I hear are just the house settling.

Right?!?

Yeah.

That’s probably it.

Nothing suspicious going on here at all.

In addition to the fun and sweets of Halloween, I also enjoy the opportunity to be a little crafty.

I ordered the BOO letters off Amazon because that font was perfect for Halloween. You know we like to make things out of wood ourselves, but you can’t beat the price on these 12-inch letters, especially when you factor in the time it would take us to cut them ourselves. The letters came unfinished and I painted them black.

The rest of the decor is cut from cardboard or black card stock. I’ve been reusing the card stock bats, birds, and mice for almost 10 years now!

The witch’s broom is made with branches from the yard, hot glue, and twine.

The branches are faux branches I had in my decor stash because I’m old enough to have lived through that era when we all just decorated with faux branches even when it wasn’t Halloween. Don’t even get me started on the fake fruit. That was a special time.

It was a black cat! One of my kids drew the scared cat on cardboard for me. Only cost me ten bucks. Tough little negotiator, that one!

In a few years, I likely won’t have kids at home for Halloween. I wonder if I’ll decorate for the holiday then or not? I guess we’ll find out.
