    Happy List: #164

Hi! Happy May Day! Thank you to everyone who reached out to wish Handy Husband a happy birthday. He was thoroughly embarrassed and secretly delighted! Someone asked me about his favorite cookies – they are these Red Velvet White Chocolate Chip Cookies. It is a recipe that uses a cake mix and they are always a hit. This week on the blog I shared the wood backboard we made for our son’s over-the-door basketball hoop. It has been seeing a lot of action while we’ve been hunkered down at home. Here’s the Happy List! PLINK, PLANK, PLUNK If you watch one thing today, it MUST BE this video by the…

Here we are again! How are you this Friday? We had a trip planned to see family this summer, but ended up cancelling our flights this week. That was hard, but we needed to take advantage of the free flight cancellations being offered. We can always rebook because we have a flight credit now. I’m going to hang on to the hope that it will be safe to travel later this summer, but I’m also not going to hold my breath. In happier news, I published photos of our daughter’s room on Monday. She’s a super chill individual with a bit of an old soul, so a calm, vintage-inspired bedroom…

Hello, hello from my house to yours! This week I shared what a day-in-the-life looks like at our house during quarantine. I also shared the antique dry sink that I’m using as a printer stand! Aside from some future electrical work to get outlets in the right spots, our office space is pretty much done. We did not intend for the space to be used as heavily as it is now, but it is working out great. I’m not sure what we are doing this weekend, but feel free to follow along with our home improvement antics on Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest too. More seems to happen there than I can get…

How are you? We are wrapping up four weeks of everyone working and learning from home. My kids have today and Monday off for a shortened Spring Break. Instead of taking an entire week off, our school districted opted for a shorter break, which will allow the school year to conclude earlier. This week I shared a vintage step stool makeover using black stain. I also shared my attempt at a whimsical Easter wreath. Emphasis on the word attempt. We are looking forward to celebrating a quiet Easter at home. I’m hoping for nice weather because we have two acres to hide Easter eggs for the kids. I do not…

Welcome back to another edition of the Happy List. How’s everyone doing? We had a virtual double date via FaceTime with another couple on Monday. A Monday night date! Who are we?! We had this date after the kids went to bed, so there weren’t any kid interruptions. We each brought wine and snacks. They had better snacks though. I did not stock up on chocolate because I didn’t think I should test my willpower during a stay-at-home order. I’m regretting my choice now. This virtual date definitely buoyed our spirits and I encourage you to give it a try. This week I shared everything you might possibly want to…

Welcome to this Friday’s edition of the Happy List. Do all your days feel like Friday now? If they do, I’d say that’s a good thing. It is way better than all the days feeling like Monday! This week I shared my tips if you want to sell a live tree from your yard. That’s really a thing! If you’d rather cut down the tree in your yard, then you must have really liked my live edge side table post on Wednesday. Ha! I didn’t even realize until just now how I basically shared two sides of the same coin on this week’s blog post. There are times when I’m…

Hello! I truly hope you are all staying healthy. We have had an interesting week with everyone at home, but still trying to do work and school. While I am very much aware of and sensitive to what is going on in the world, the blog will continue with business as usual. This is my happy place. I come here because I enjoy writing, sharing our projects and engaging with you. I need that more than ever and I hope you do too. We’ll see how long I can keep things up if we run out of DIY supplies. This week I shared some updates we’ve made on cleaning up…

Well, happy Friday the 13th! It sure is a weird time in the world, isn’t it? I hope you are all staying safe and well. This week I shared how I’m decorating with my mom’s thimble collection. I just love to hear the stories you’ve shared with me about the thimbles you have that belong to your moms and grandmothers. I also wrote about our trip to Avery’s Beverages in New Britain, Connecticut. We love fun, quirky travel experiences like that and I hope you do too. It is Happy List time! I don’t know about you, but I need a big dose of happy! MINTY This home in Mobile,…

Hello, hello! This week I shared a belated progress report on the projects we’ve tackled at our Colonial Farmhouse. Thank you for your encouragement over the past six months. Every kind word and thought sent our way definitely bolstered our spirits. I also shared the handkerchief art I made out of vintage handkerchiefs that used to belong to my grandparents. Handkerchief is such a funny word, don’t you think? It doesn’t really roll off the tongue easily. Here is the Happy List! LEATHER HEADBOARD This portfolio of Banda Property in the U.K. is amazing, but check out that bed. The headboard portion would be completely doable as a DIY. You’re…

It’s almost March, folks! We are so close. January dragged on, but February has flown by! This week I shared some recent thrift store finds with you and a DIY cabinet door utensil caddy that has been rocking my world. If you are curious about what goes on in-between blog posts, please follow along on my Instagram or Facebook stories. I’d love to chat with you there, here, anywhere really! Here’s the Happy List! GROCERY STORE ETIQUETTE This advice column on grocery store etiquette in Bon Appétit made me laugh out loud.
