How Did I Not Know This? Bed Sheet Labels
I have changed bed sheets countless times in my life. I would try and figure out how many times, but that would be too depressing. I mean, really, it’s not my favorite chore on the planet. Because I am a creature of habit and routine, I wash sheets every Sunday. Go ahead, be jealous over the glamorous life I lead. I can wait while you deal with this rash of emotions. My husband and I share a king-sized bed. Earth-shattering, I know. On Sunday, per every other Sunday, I was putting clean sheets on our bed. The length and width dimensions on a king-sized bed are fairly similar, so sometimes I…
Homemade Girl Scout Cookie Thin Mint Ice Cream
If only those Girl Scout cookies weren’t SO good. It would make it much easier to say “no” to the little girls coming around our neighborhood selling those hard-to-resist creations. In case you’re a Girl Scout with cookies and treats to sell, I haven’t said no yet! By the way, I’ve been extremely impressed thus far with how articulate and composed these young girls have been. Even at 6 and 7 years old they are demonstrating impressive poise and responsibility. I was not a Girl Scout. Hmm…could explain a few things. 😉 I mentioned in this post that we recently became the proud new owners of an ice cream making machine. This…
Leprechaun Punch
I like any excuse to use food coloring. There. I said it. So, of course, St. Patrick’s Day is the perfect day for me to unleash my arsenal of green food coloring. My kids go wild for all of our green concoctions! And, I like to play it cool, but I love it too! This year I’ll be serving up a tall glass of Leprechaun Punch for the kids. It’s super easy to make. (You could definitely make this in large punch bowl if you were serving a crowd.) All I did was color a glass of Sierra Mist with green food coloring and then added a dollop of lime sherbet…
The Jacket I Love So Much I Bought It Twice
Here’s the deal with me. When I like something, I really, really like it. It’s probably a good thing I don’t experience this phenomenon regularly. This admission leads me to my present obsession and a post full of awkward selfies taken in my powder room. I was looking for a jacket with a hood late last year and I found some snazzy jackets online. Of course, they all cost one bazillion dollars plus a hair from the mane of a magical, pink unicorn. So, I started searching on Amazon because as an Amazon Prime member, I get free shipping and they make returns easy. That’s not an advertisement, just my experience. Plus, I’m allergic to large…
Around These Parts
I haven’t done a “what’s happening” post for the family in awhile, so if you’re not one of the 1.7 people out there who cares about my iPhone photos…come back next time! Last week school was cancelled twice. I’m not exactly sure why other than the threat of inclement weather. Funny thing, though. We had no inclement weather those days. Dry and cold, no moisture surrounding the school hours. Tuesday of this week we woke up to snow! Yes, folks everywhere but here, I realize a dusting of snow is a joke, but in Georgia even a small amount can cause a big problem. Oh, and the kids had school that…
Chewy Swedish Gingersnap Cookies
I sometimes find myself sucked into the online abyss of food pictures and recipes. There are so many gifted cooks out there! They can pair ingredients like nobody’s business and they always seem have some sort of fresh herb on hand for garnish. Garnishes don’t happen here. 4 and 7-year-olds simply do not appreciate them. Kids these days! Often this online recipe hunt is a half-hearted attempt to get out of a dinner rut. I’m not really sure what’s wrong with having tacos 5 nights a week, but my family seems to want variety. The nerve! Other times I’m just wondering what I can make out of the random ingredients in my fridge…
No-Sew Embellished Canvas Tote
Do you have one of those friends that has known you longer than you’ve been with your spouse or partner? I do. She’s pretty darn special to me. We don’t talk or see each other nearly as often as I’d like, but I know she’d be there for me in a heartbeat. A few months ago she called and told me about her new job. What impressed me the most is not that she had landed a new job (she’s talented and smart), but her attitude about her new job. She, in essence, told me that she’d finally come to the realization that she needed to stop undermining her value and…
Krispy Kreme Knock-Off: Yay or Nay?
I saw a recipe floating around Facebook for knock-off Krispy Kreme doughnuts. If that right there doesn’t convince you that Facebook is the root of all evil, I don’t know what will. 🙂 Anyway, they looked delicious. Mouth-wateringly delicious. Since Krispy Kremes are the holy grail of doughnuts, a close knock-off recipe would make you a culinary genius. The hero of the kitchen. Friend to cops everywhere. I had to see if the recipe was all it claimed to be. I felt honor-bound. I was like those nerdy, awesome dudes on MythBusters. Except my assistants were a 2nd grader and a Pre-Ker. And by assistance, I mean they did a taste…
No-Sew Way to Repair a T-Shirt Hole
June 30, 2015 Update: T-shirt repair using this method is still holding strong! This isn’t a shirt I wear everyday, but it has been washed and worn several times since this original post in February 2015. I hope you have the same results as I have had. The other day I paused to straighten my shirt as I was running at the door and somehow one of my fingernails of steel punched a hole right through my shirt. AGH! I still have no idea how it happened. Especially since I’m not sporting particularly long or pointy fingernails at the moment. This is the shirt in question. A dressier version of…
Lego Table
I have kids. Therefore, I have tiny plastic bricks laying around the house causing parental foot injuries. It may also be the source of all the bad words my children know. “Oh, fu-dgesicle!” “Shiiii-take mushrooms!” It’s no wonder I have a picky eater. Meme Credit: Meme Center A couple of months ago I came downstairs in the dark. I knew my son had left his precious Lego creations on the floor. Heaven forbid that half firehouse-half motorcycle creation gets broken when put back in the storage bin! Anyway, my first step went so well and I continued to navigate through the area with ease. I had a momentary surge of pride that…
