What is the Best Constructive Criticism You’ve Ever Received?
What is the best constructive criticism you’ve ever received? Or has it all just been plain ol’ criticism of the regular variety? I’d love to know! As a blogger, I’ve received my fair share of criticism over the years. That’s always fun. *sarcasm alert* However, the most caustic environment I’ve ever been in was not work-related. It was while serving on the PTA at my kids’ school. That was a tough crowd! The best constructive criticism I’ve ever received was in college. I was 19 or 20 years old and had secured a prestigious marketing internship with a well-known company in Portland, Oregon. It was the gold standard for internships because they gave their…
Organization Tricks That Work For Me
I have a few organization tricks that work for me and they might work for you too! The best organization tricks are the ones that work for you and your lifestyle. Full stop. You could buy $1,000 work of pretty bins from The Container Store and still have a pantry or closet that is a hot mess because you don’t actually use the pretty bins. You could buy a label maker and go crazy labeling everything in existence, but if no one in your family reads the labels, what was the point? Besides the fact that label makers are kind of fun to use! Remember that organize is a verb. That means it requires…
Happy List: #200
Welcome to the Happy List all you lovebirds! Ready for Valentine’s Day? It’s not a big holiday in our house, but I will use it as an excuse to order takeout! This week on the blog I shared the leather belt tray I made and love with all my heart and soul. I styled it differently for the blog post, but it ended up in my son’s room on top of his bookcase. I also shared a bunch of cool art I found for big kid rooms…or for the kid in all of us. Speaking of art of a sort, the wood heart magnets at the top of this post were made by my…
Unique Art for Big Kid Spaces
I went down the Etsy rabbit hole looking for art for our bedroom and instead found a slew of cool, unique art for big kid spaces. There are so many talented artists in the world! When I find random things here and there that I like (or in this case that my kids would like) I usually put them in a Happy List post. One random thing is fine for the Happy List. Two things in the same category is pushing it, but I’ll allow it. Three things in the same category? Three means you have to make a completely separate blog post because my boss is a tyrant. True story. I’m typing this…
DIY Leather Belt Tray
A leather belt tray is today’s project and I am a teensy bit in love with it. I had a stack of western-style leather belts in my closet. The leather belts originally came from my dad’s closet and I’m presuming he wore them once or twice. Then the leather belts hung in my closet and I didn’t wear them at all. I was just waiting over a year for inspiration to strike on how to reuse those leather belts and when it did, HOLY MOLY was it good. Creating a leather belt tray is the easiest, most satisfying project. Anyone can do it. You just need a leather belt or two, a wood tray, scissors or…
Happy List: #199
Hello! Welcome to today’s Happy List! This week on the blog I shared the DIY Rustic Wood Hearts I made. Despite my jokes about how they turned out, I really do like them. I’ve been trying to think of a way to maybe date them or use them to acknowledge or remember special moments. I also shared the new Wedding Anniversary Card tradition that Handy Husband and I are starting tomorrow. I did finally tell him about this new tradition and he was SO relieved. Hahahahaha! It is sometimes nice to get the words expressing love from your partner, but that man SHOWS me every dang day how much he loves me with…
Wedding Anniversary Card Tradition
My husband and I have started a new wedding anniversary card tradition. Instead of buying new cards for each other every anniversary, we are reusing the same card year after year. Every year we will take the time to write a note to each other in the card, making sure to date each note so we don’t have to look back and guess which year it was written. I suppose you could implement this wedding anniversary card tradition with two cards or share the same card. Either way, the point is to keep an ever-growing collection of anniversary notes all in one place. I’m fully expecting that after decades of doing this,…
DIY Rustic Wood Hearts
I’m titling this post “DIY Rustic Wood Hearts” because it’s really hard to DIY perfect wood hearts by hand. At least it is for this girl! Rustic sounds so much more purposeful than almost any other descriptive adjective I could use. I was in the mood to create something as a subtle nod to Valentine’s Day without throwing up red and pink glittered hearts all over my house. I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but I don’t do cutesy decor very well. I love looking at those playful, festive decor pictures online, but that style doesn’t translate well in real life for me. So how could I create something for Valentine’s Day that suits my…
Happy List: #198
Welcome to this week’s Happy List! The image at the top of this post was taken by me on a trip to Barcelona. I’ve been thinking about all the good times we’ve spent traveling and this photo always makes me smile. Oh, and despite how the picture looks, it wasn’t particularly warm when we visited Barcelona because it was the end of December/first of January. This week on the blog I wrote about the car horns I’m collecting. I’ve been learning a lot about antique car horns and you are now the recipient of that knowledge. When I shared what I knew about car horns being tuned to musical notes, a friend on…
What is the Best Sound in the World?
What is the best sound in the world to you? I have been thinking about this question lately. I’m curious to know what you think is the best sound in the world. If you had to pick only one sound, what would it be? Is it the sound of the waves crashing against the shore? Is it the sound of a cat purring? Is it the sound of your baby’s first cry after being brought into this world? Is it the sound of “I love you” coming from your partner’s lips? Is it the sound of rain coming down on your roof? Is it the sound of your name being called as you walk across the stage to…
