    Happy List: #292

Hello! Welcome to this week’s Happy List. I’m glad you’re here. This week on the blog I shared some recent photos of my home that made me smile. This old house of ours gives me a lot of heartburn, so I have to balance that out with moments of appreciation! I also shared my idea for creating a utility wall when you don’t have a closet to store all of your brooms, mops, vacuums, etc. I used to work for a national homebuilder and one of my roles was to provide input on new floorplans. My feedback was always “Where does the vacuum go?” Needless to say, utility space is…

No Utility Closet? Make An Utility Wall Instead.

If your house is like mine and has no utility closet or logical spot to put a broom and mop, do not fret. Just don’t sweep or mop. Kidding! Make a utility wall instead. Functionally, all you need is a little bit of wall space and some hooks and you can create a utility wall. Don’t have wall space? That makes it trickier, but you might have the side of a tall kitchen cabinet or even the side of your refrigerator to use as a “wall.” But won’t it look bad to hang your dirty laundry broom, mop, dustpan, etc. out where everyone can see them? Possibly. I’m not going…

Recent Home Photos That Made Me Smile

Today, I thought I’d share some recent candid home photos that made me smile. I’m forever captivated by the light in our home. Often when I’m walking through the house the light catches my eye and a scene I’ve seen thousands of times suddenly looks different. Special. Noteworthy. I really wish my camera could capture the feeling those fleeting moments evoke for me. Perhaps it’s the warmth from the afternoon light or just how lucky I feel that we get to live here. But that might be putting a lot of pressure on a camera. This view from my kiddo’s room that I cleverly cropped so you can’t see the…

    Happy List: #291

Hello there! Welcome to this week’s Happy List. I’m delighted you’ve joined this party. This week on the blog I shared another idea for keeping charging cords on your desk. What you can do with a little time, creativity, and a block of wood is amazing. I also shared my latest round-up of thrift store treasures that I found to decorate my home. I can get a lot of bang for my buck with a five-dollar bill! As always, I like connecting with you! It makes me smile. Please feel free to leave a comment or share this site with your friends. My Latest Thrift Store Finds: Part 5

Welcome to another round of My Latest Thrift Store Finds! We’re on part 5 of this story. How many parts will there be? It is anyone’s guess. As long as there are thrifted treasures to be found and a few bucks in my pocket, I’m there. I was trying to think of everything in our house that has been thrifted and decided it would just be easier to list the things I’ve purchased new such as mattresses, pillows, bed frames, the couch, recliner chairs in our bedroom, and rugs. Oh, and 20 years ago I bought the piano new. If I take care of it, it should last another 80…

    DIY Wood Cube Cord Holder

Today I’m going to show you my latest creation, a DIY Wood Cube Cord Holder, and how you can make one yourself. Cord management for all of our electronic devices seems like a universal problem we can all get behind. That’s a rarity in our world! I’ve been on a kick to contain, manage, and wrangle all the charging cords in our house. It’s a thankless job but someone has to do it. My laptop charging cord is particularly wily. If that cord wasn’t plugged into my laptop, it would slide right off the back of my desk. There are adhesive clips you can purchase to solve that problem but…

    Happy List: #290

Hi! Welcome to this week’s Happy List. Can you believe February is almost over? This week on the blog I shared what I learned about rhododendrons. I’m a big fan of those flowers but still trying to decide if I plant more in our flowerbeds. I also shared my love story with bread. Or, if you want to be technical about it, the 4 bread recipes I bake on repeat around here. I hope you try them and enjoy them as much as we do. As always, I like connecting with you! It makes me smile. Please feel free to leave a comment or share this site with your friends.…

4 Bread Recipes I Make On Repeat

We eat a fair amount of bread in our house. Life’s too short not to enjoy carbs, right? All. the. carbs. However, I don’t regularly buy bread from the grocery store unless my kids are going through a bagel phase or we are having burgers for dinner. If we’re eating bread it is usually because I’ve baked it. Yes, I’m one of those people. It’s not that I enjoy the act of baking bread particularly, but I do enjoy eating it. Here are 4 bread recipes I make on repeat around here. They never fail me. I’m also using the word bread loosely here. If it is dough-based, it’s bread…

Considering More Rhododendrons For Our Landscaping

I’m considering adding more rhododendrons to the landscaping directly in front of our Colonial Farmhouse. I know it’s not necessarily newsworthy to tell you I’m thinking about doing a thing but I haven’t decided if it’s a good idea and even if it is I might chicken out and do something else. Yet, here we are. Honestly, if someone else wanted to take care of the landscaping decisions for me, I’d be so happy. It’s just not a topic that gets me excited. Unfortunately, there is no one else. I double and tripled checked. I’m stuck with myself on this one. We currently have three rhododendrons. One to the left…

    Happy List: #289

Hi! Welcome to this week’s Happy List! I’m delighted you are here. This week on the blog I shared all the things I learned about Valentine’s Day this year. Basically, we spend a lot on a holiday we don’t particularly love. I also wrote a blog post about my current interest in watercolor greeting cards. I’ve made some of my own. I also found a bunch on Etsy that were amazing. Have you ever made your own greeting cards? It’s fun! As always, I like connecting with you! It makes me smile.
